Connect your product to the systems your clinicians already use. TecXra builds FHIR, HL7 and API integrations across leading US EHRs, with HIPAA safeguards designed in from the first sprint.

Why EHR Integration Decides Whether Healthcare Software Gets Used

A product that cannot read and write clinical data inside the EHR rarely survives in a hospital or practice. Every EHR vendor has its own APIs, access program and approval process, even though most now support the HL7 and FHIR standards. Under the 21st Century Cures Act, certified EHRs must offer standardized FHIR APIs, which makes integration far more practical than it used to be, but each system still needs its own plan. Our healthcare software team has hands-on experience across Epic, Cerner, athenahealth and Meditech.

Standards first

We build on HL7 v2, FHIR R4 and SMART on FHIR so your integration works across systems, not just one.

Built for each vendor

Every EHR has its own developer program, sandbox and approval path. We scope that early so it does not stall your launch.

HIPAA by design

Encrypted storage, role-based access, audit logging and BAAs with infrastructure providers, from the first sprint.

EHR Systems We Integrate With

We build secure, standards-based integrations for the EHR systems US hospitals, health systems and ambulatory practices rely on, using FHIR, SMART on FHIR and HL7. Here is how each platform works and what a typical integration involves.

Epic

Large health systems and academic medical centers. FHIR APIs, SMART on FHIR and HL7 v2 interfaces.

Oracle Health (Cerner)

Hospitals on Oracle Health Millennium. FHIR R4 APIs, code Console app registration and a sandbox.

athenahealth

Ambulatory practices and medical groups on athenaOne. 800+ API endpoints, HL7 and C-CDA interfaces.

MEDITECH

Hospitals running MEDITECH Expanse. SMART on FHIR testing and partner programs through Greenfield.

eClinicalWorks

Ambulatory practices on eClinicalWorks. FHIR R4 API with US Core profiles and OAuth 2.0 / SMART on FHIR.

NextGen Healthcare

Ambulatory and specialty practices on NextGen Enterprise and Office. FHIR-based APIs and HL7 interfaces through NextGen’s developer program.

Veradigm (Allscripts)

Ambulatory practices and health systems on Veradigm and Allscripts platforms. FHIR APIs and HL7 interfaces through the Veradigm developer program.

ModMed

Specialty practices in dermatology, ophthalmology, orthopedics and more. API and partner access tailored to specialty workflows.

Greenway Health

Independent and multi-provider practices on Intergy and Prime Suite. FHIR APIs and HL7 interfaces, planned practice by practice.

CPSI / TruBridge

Small, community and rural hospitals. HL7 interfaces and API-based data exchange, scoped to each hospital’s setup.

01 / EPIC EHR INTEGRATION

Epic Integration

Epic is the EHR many large health systems and academic medical centers run. Epic’s developer site, open.epic.com, publishes a large library of APIs, including FHIR APIs, and Epic Showroom is where Epic customers discover third-party products that work with Epic. Apps that run inside the clinician workflow typically use SMART on FHIR, and data exchange uses FHIR APIs and HL7 v2 interfaces.

Integration snapshot

  • Best for: Hospitals and health systems that run Epic
  • Standards and APIs: FHIR APIs, SMART on FHIR app launch, HL7 v2 interfaces
  • Access path: Register through Epic’s developer program, then each customer organization approves and configures your app in its own Epic environment
  • Plan for: Customer-by-customer approval timelines, so scope access early

02 / CERNER EHR INTEGRATION

Oracle Health (Cerner) Integration

Cerner is now part of Oracle Health. Its Millennium platform exposes FHIR R4 APIs. Developers create an application in Oracle Health’s code Console, test it in a nonproduction sandbox, and then work with each customer, who provisions the application against their own tenant through a service request.

Integration snapshot

  • Best for: Hospitals and health systems on Oracle Health Millennium
  • Standards and APIs: FHIR R4 APIs, SMART on FHIR, HL7 v2 interfaces
  • Access path: Create the app in code Console, get sandbox credentials through a CernerCare account, then the customer provisions your application ID and client ID against their tenant
  • Plan for: Customer-side provisioning steps and, for production, any approval your customer’s process requires

03 / ATHENAHEALTH INTEGRATION

athenahealth Integration

athenahealth’s cloud platform, athenaOne, is used by ambulatory practices and medical groups. athenahealth offers over 800 API endpoints for extending the platform, HL7 and C-CDA interfaces for exchanging clinical data, and a Marketplace Partners Program that helps promote and distribute integrated apps.

Integration snapshot

  • Best for: Ambulatory practices and medical groups on athenaOne
  • Standards and APIs: REST APIs (800+ endpoints), HL7 and C-CDA interfaces, plus FHIR-based access for standardized data
  • Access path: athenahealth’s developer portal, with the Marketplace Partners Program for apps you want to distribute to athenahealth customers
  • Plan for: Mapping your data model to athenahealth’s API structure and practice-level configuration

04 / MEDITECH EXPANSE INTEGRATION

MEDITECH Integration

MEDITECH’s Expanse EHR is used by hospitals of many sizes, including community hospitals. MEDITECH’s Greenfield initiative has two parts: Greenfield Workspace, a development environment where app developers can test solutions, including SMART on FHIR apps, in a real MEDITECH EHR, and Greenfield Alliance, for partners with proven products that complement or extend Expanse.

Integration snapshot

  • Best for: Hospitals and health systems running MEDITECH Expanse
  • Standards and APIs: FHIR APIs, SMART on FHIR, HL7 interfaces
  • Access path: Apply to Greenfield Workspace as an app developer, or to Greenfield Alliance if you have a proven product that extends Expanse
  • Plan for: Working within an agreed implementation guide for each deployment

05 / ECLINICALWORKS INTEGRATION

eClinicalWorks Integration

eClinicalWorks (eCW) is a widely used ambulatory EHR. It exposes a FHIR R4 API built on US Core profiles, secured with OAuth 2.0 under SMART on FHIR. You register an application in the eClinicalWorks developer program, which issues a client ID, and then each practice must authorize your app in its own environment, so build lead time into your plan.

Integration snapshot

  • Best for: Ambulatory practices and groups on eClinicalWorks
  • Standards and APIs: FHIR R4 with US Core profiles, OAuth 2.0 and SMART on FHIR
  • Access path: Register in the eClinicalWorks developer program, then each practice authorizes your app
  • Plan for: Rate limits (use backoff and retry), and note that bulk export and write-back depend on each practice’s configuration and agreements

06 / NEXTGEN EHR INTEGRATION

NextGen Healthcare Integration

NextGen Healthcare serves ambulatory and specialty practices on NextGen Enterprise. Developers join the NextGen Developer Program by submitting a company and product form. NextGen then reviews the product for platform compatibility. Apps that extend NextGen Enterprise can be listed in the NextGen API Marketplace, and NextGen runs a separate path for Patient Access apps.

Integration snapshot

  • Best for: Ambulatory and specialty practices on NextGen Enterprise
  • Standards and APIs: FHIR APIs (including Patient Access), NextGen’s proprietary APIs, HL7 interfaces
  • Access path: Apply to the NextGen Developer Program, pass the compatibility review, then work with each practice that runs the product
  • Integration type: Direct, with a third-party option through the NextGen API Marketplace
  • Plan for: The program requires an active NextGen Enterprise license, and the review adds lead time

07 / VERADIGM EHR INTEGRATION

Veradigm (Allscripts) Integration

Veradigm, formerly Allscripts, offers a FHIR R4 API for its EHR products. Developers register on the developer portal, create an app, choose their scopes and request production access. Veradigm Connect reviews each request. The FHIR API is read-only. Apps that need to write data or reach practice management data use the Unity API instead.

Integration snapshot

  • Best for: Ambulatory practices and health systems on Veradigm and Allscripts EHRs
  • Standards and APIs: FHIR R4 (read-only), Unity API for read/write, OAuth 2.0 / SMART on FHIR
  • Access path: Register on the Veradigm developer portal, test in a partner environment, request production access, then each client activates the app in its License Management Portal
  • Integration type: Direct. Veradigm approves the app, and each client authorizes it separately
  • Plan for: Client-by-client activation, and the choice between FHIR (read-only) and Unity (write-back) early in scoping

08 / MODMED EHR INTEGRATION

ModMed Integration

ModMed serves specialty practices such as dermatology, ophthalmology, orthopedics and gastroenterology. It publishes two API paths. The EMA Proprietary API supports ModMed EMA and ModMed Practice Management, with sandbox environments. The Certified FHIR API covers EMA, ModMed GI and gGastro, and requires registering as a vendor.

Integration snapshot

  • Best for: Specialty practices on ModMed EMA, Practice Management, ModMed GI or gGastro
  • Standards and APIs: FHIR R4 aligned with US Core and USCDI, OAuth 2.0, SMART on FHIR, plus the EMA Proprietary API
  • Access path: Register through the ModMed API portal. The Proprietary API has a sandbox, and the FHIR API requires vendor registration
  • Integration type: Direct, using whichever API fits the practice’s ModMed product
  • Plan for: gGastro practices can use only the Certified FHIR API, so confirm which ModMed product the customer runs

09 / GREENWAY EHR INTEGRATION

Greenway Health Integration

Greenway Health’s EHR products are Intergy and Prime Suite. Its FHIR R4 API supports read operations and SMART on FHIR authentication, with PKCE required. Greenway’s proprietary API, GAPI, supports reads and writes across clinical and financial data. Apps can run inside the EHR or on their own. Developers register on the Greenway Developer Platform, and SMART apps can be submitted to the App Gallery.

Integration snapshot

  • Best for: Independent and multi-provider practices on Intergy or Prime Suite
  • Standards and APIs: FHIR R4 (read operations), SMART on FHIR with PKCE, proprietary GAPI for read/write
  • Access path: Register on the Greenway Developer Platform, build in the FHIR Dashboard, and work with each practice. GAPI access runs through Marketplace partners
  • Integration type: Direct for FHIR. GAPI goes through Greenway’s Marketplace partner path
  • Plan for: The FHIR API cannot write data, so write-back needs GAPI and the partner route

10 / TRUBRIDGE EHR INTEGRATION

CPSI / TruBridge Integration

TruBridge, which includes the former CPSI, serves community and rural hospitals. Its FHIR R4 API provides read-only access to patient clinical data. It is certified for 170.315(g)(7), (g)(9) and (g)(10), and it has patient, provider and enterprise access scopes. Patients reach their data through MyCareCorner. Developer access is handled through the TruBridge Developer Portal.

Integration snapshot

  • Best for: Community and rural hospitals on TruBridge
  • Standards and APIs: FHIR R4 (read-only), certified API criteria (g)(7), (g)(9), (g)(10)
  • Access path: Request access through the TruBridge Developer Portal, then work with each hospital
  • Integration type: Direct for read access. Write-back would need an interface engine or a TruBridge partner, and the page doesn’t confirm either, so check with TruBridge
  • Plan for: Read-only scope, a certification-driven API, and small hospital IT teams who approve slowly

EHR Integration

Frequently Ask Question?

EHR integration connects your software to an electronic health record system so data such as patients, appointments, medications and results can be read and, where permitted, written securely. It uses standards such as HL7 v2 and FHIR, and each EHR vendor adds its own access program.

TecXra integrates with leading US EHRs, including Epic, Oracle Health (Cerner), MEDITECH, athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, NextGen, Veradigm, ModMed, Greenway Health and CPSI / TruBridge. We use FHIR, SMART on FHIR, HL7 and vendor APIs, connecting directly or through third-party partners depending on what each system supports.

Each system has its own access requirements and approval timelines, and customers often have their own steps too. We scope this early and guide you through each system's process, so access does not become a surprise late in the project.

It depends on the systems and data involved. FHIR R4 is the modern standard and most major EHRs offer FHIR APIs, but many hospitals still exchange data over HL7 v2 interfaces. We design the integration layer to support the standards your customers actually use.

HIPAA compliance depends on how the whole system is built and operated. We design with encrypted storage, role-based access controls, audit logging and BAAs with cloud infrastructure providers, and your own compliance team or counsel should confirm the final setup.

Yes, through approved APIs. For example, our healthcare AI agent case study shows an agent that books appointments and answers insurance questions, with a clear hand-off to staff for anything clinical.
